Zithromax is used for treating different diseases caused by bacterial infections such as ear infections, skin infections, pneumonia, bronchitis and sexually transmitted diseases. When taking Zithromax as an oral suspension a packet contains a single doze of the drug. You should pour out the contents of the packet into the glass and stir it up in two ounces of water. As soon as you drink the suspension refill the glass with water and drink it again to take all the remaining medicine in the glass. The tablets and liquids should be stored at room temperature.

Like other prescription drugs and especially antibiotics Zithromax can produce some side effects, which can differ in their severity. Side-effects most common with Zithromax include skin rash, dizziness, headache, vomiting, diarrhea and mild nausea. In case you experience difficulty breathing or swallowing, have chest pain, irregular heartbeats, hives, swelling contact your doctor immediately. Speak to your healthcare provider if you experience something unusual when taking the drug.

Zithromax can interact with other drugs that will result in altered effects or side-effects. Inform your doctor if you are taking any prescription, non-prescription or even street drugs to avoid unpleasant symptoms. Drugs containing aluminum and magnesium such as Mylanta, Maalox, Rolaids and Pepcid Complete should be taken two hours before or after taking Zithromax.
